Start it via an app while you're at work – and come home to clean floors. No cords. No hassle.

But which robot vacuum cleaner should you choose? There are big differences between models, and the best one is the one that suits your home and lifestyle. Below, we answer the most important questions.

What's the difference between pads and a washing roller – and which should I choose?

It depends on your floor type and how thoroughly you want to clean.

Pads are the most common solution and work well for light to moderate dirt on smooth floors such as wood, vinyl, and tiles. They are easy to change and wash, and most robot vacuum cleaners with a mopping function come with pads as standard.

A washing roller – found on models like the Mova Z60 Ultra Roller – actively rotates and provides a more thorough scrubbing wash that loosens ingrained dirt and stains far more effectively than pads. It's the best choice if you have children, pets, or high demands for cleaning quality.

In short: pads for light daily maintenance, a washing roller for thorough cleaning. If your budget allows, a washing roller is clearly the best solution for most homes.

Can a robot vacuum cleaner cross thresholds?

Yes, all robot vacuum cleaners can. The height of the threshold they can handle varies – most can manage 1.8 cm, and some models can do more. All robot vacuum cleaners at Fnugfri have a drive motor on each wheel, making them effective at climbing over thresholds.

Can a robot vacuum cleaner run on carpets?

Yes, all can run on carpets – but efficiency varies. Suction power is important, but the crucial factor is largely the cleaning brush the model uses. For carpets, we recommend models with rotating brushes and high suction power of at least 2,500 Pa.

Can a robot vacuum cleaner replace a regular vacuum cleaner?

For many households – yes. A good robot vacuum cleaner can easily take over daily vacuuming. If you have many corners, tightly packed furniture, or long-pile carpets, you will probably still benefit from a manual vacuum cleaner for more thorough cleaning.

How often should the robot vacuum cleaner run?

Most households get the best results by running it daily or every other day. If you have pets or children, we recommend daily operation. You can easily program the robot to run automatically – for example, while you are at work.

Can a robot vacuum cleaner be used on multiple floors?

Yes, but it cannot go up stairs by itself. You must manually move it from floor to floor – or invest in an extra charging station. Certain advanced models with mapping functions (RoomPlan/Multimap) can remember layouts for multiple floors.

What's the difference between gyro navigation and laser navigation?

Gyro navigation uses an internal sensor and moves in a somewhat systematic manner. Laser navigation (LiDAR) precisely maps the room and cleans more efficiently and structurally – especially in large or complex homes. Laser navigation is typically found on mid-range and high-end models and is clearly preferable if the budget allows.

Is a robot vacuum cleaner noisy?

Much less so than a traditional vacuum cleaner. A robot vacuum cleaner typically makes 60–70 dB of noise compared to a regular vacuum cleaner's 75–85 dB. It is perfectly suitable for running while you are at home or sleeping. The noise level varies from model to model.

Which robot vacuum cleaner is best for pet hair?

Choose a model without rubber brushes – pet hair easily gets tangled in these and is difficult to remove. Look for models with anti-tangle brushes and high suction power. For each product at Fnugfri, we indicate whether the model is suitable for pet hair.

What does a good robot vacuum cleaner cost?

Prices vary from approximately DKK 1,000 for basic models to over DKK 10,000 for top models with laser navigation, a washing roller, and an emptying station. As a rule of thumb: the larger the home and the higher the demands, the more it pays to invest. We are happy to help you find the right one for your budget.

When is a robot vacuum cleaner not the right choice?

A robot vacuum cleaner is not a universal solution. It struggles if furniture is very close together, if you have many long-pile carpets, or if the home is very small. However, it will always take care of a large part of the vacuuming, and it is an individual assessment whether it is worth it.

Our preferred brands – and why

Mova are, in our opinion, the best robot vacuum cleaners on the market right now. They deliver the strongest technical specifications on the market: superior suction power, long running time, advanced mopping functions, and much more. If you want the absolute best, Mova is the answer.

Cecotec is the Spanish brand we most often sell and recommend. With almost 2 million robot vacuum cleaners sold in Europe, they are one of the largest providers on the market. Their range covers simple navigation, gyro navigation, and laser navigation – all models can both vacuum and wet mop smooth floors. Mid-range and top models have app control, voice recognition (Alexa, Google Assistant), RoomPlan, and Multimap.

iRobot Roomba can be found in many Danish homes. iRobot makes 2-in-1 models, which both remove dust bunnies and stains. Controlled via an app and tailored precisely to your lifestyle.
