You probably know the feeling. The shower cubicle needs some tender loving care and some elbow grease. Cleaning shower cubicles, in particular, is often forgotten in the cleaning routine, and if an entire family uses the shower daily, soap residue, limescale, and dirt can quickly accumulate in the corners, on tiles, or on glass.
Fortunately, it doesn't have to take long to transform your shower cubicle into a sparkling clean one. At Fnugfri, we believe that cleaning doesn't have to be time-consuming or difficult – it should be something that anyone can do without spending half the day on it. Here you can read about our best tips for cleaning the shower cubicle in a busy everyday life, where you'd rather spend time relaxing with your family.
Remove limescale from shower cubicle glass
If your shower cubicle has glass walls, you've probably noticed how a whitish film can quickly appear on the glass. Fortunately, you can easily remove both limescale and dirt from glass with a clever homemade mixture. Simply combine equal parts water and household vinegar in a spray bottle. Shake your cleaning solution well, spray it over the entire glass surface, and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping everything down with a clean microfibre cloth. This way, you can clean your shower cubicle simply and easily.
The clever thing about using microfibre cloths is that they have an extremely long lifespan and can collect far more bacteria and dirt than if you use an ordinary cloth. This makes microfibre cloths truly effective in your daily cleaning. Shop microfibre cloths at Fnugfri.
If you need to clean quickly on a daily basis, you can also achieve a lot by using ordinary glass cleaner on your glass surfaces when cleaning the shower cubicle. Simply spray glass cleaner onto the surface and spread it around well with a clean microfibre cloth.
However, if you choose to use glass cleaner, it requires that you have deep-cleaned the shower cubicle beforehand, before you can use this easy solution. The thorough cleaning can be done with the homemade cleaning solution as mentioned earlier. Once you've treated the glass with that, you can easily maintain the clean look with glass cleaner. Smart!
How to clean tiled showers
Have your tiles started to look dirty with coatings and discolouration? Yellowish tiles that should be white, or dark tiles with white rings do nothing good for your bathroom. Fortunately, you can quickly get rid of the dirt with two ultra-easy steps when cleaning the shower cubicle:
-
Start by rinsing the tiles thoroughly with plenty of water. You can simply use the hand shower.
- Then wipe the tiles with ordinary all-purpose cleaner. Let the product work for a bit before wiping it off with a clean cloth or microfibre cloth. You will immediately see a visible difference.
If you also need to remove limescale from your tiles, you can easily tackle it by using a good limescale remover designed for the material used in your cubicle. If you prefer to make your own limescale remover from things you have at home, simply mix ⅓ vinegar and ⅔ dish soap. Pour it all into a spray bottle and shake well before spraying it onto the tiles. When cleaning your shower cubicle, you can also apply the mixture with a cloth or sponge.
Before you start using your homemade limescale remover, remember to saturate the grout with plenty of water. The water prevents the acid from penetrating the material and thus damaging it. Once the grout is saturated, you can clean your shower cubicle by distributing your limescale remover on the tiles. Let the mixture work for at least 30 minutes before removing it with a scouring sponge. If the limescale is extra stubborn, you can mix a little baking soda into your mixture. Baking soda has an abrasive effect, which makes it easier for you to scrub away the last limescale residues when you clean the shower cubicle.
However, be aware that natural stones such as marble do not tolerate acid from your vinegar mixture. If you have natural stone in your bathroom, you should use a special limescale remover that is designed for the specific material you have in your shower cubicle.

Clean the shower cubicle for mold
A bit of mold along edges and in corners is unfortunately not an uncommon problem in bathrooms. This is due to the extremely high humidity that arises when we shower in a small space. In reality, the very best trick against mold is to ventilate well every time you've taken a shower.
Should the worst happen, you'll need some stronger cleaning products to get rid of the mold. Rodalon, for example, is very good. In general, our best recommendation is to remember to ventilate. If you're already doing that, it might be a good idea to check if there's anything wrong with your bathroom's extractor fan.
Your toolbox can help you clean the shower cubicle
Yes, you read that right! If you have an old drill lying in the shed or in your toolbox, we recommend using it when cleaning the shower cubicle. Attach a sponge or brush to the end, and voila! You now have an effective cleaning aid that can really scrub and scour all the dirt and limescale off your tiles and glass surfaces. Remember to be careful when using it on the grout.
How to prevent dirt and limescale in everyday life
Once you've given your shower cubicle a thorough cleaning, you can actually keep it looking good for a long time by following our simple tip: make sure to dry the shower cubicle thoroughly every time you've showered.
Start by using a squeegee to remove the worst of the water from tiles, grout, and glass. Then, take a clean towel and dry thoroughly. Remember to dry well in the corners, as well as the fixtures.
